Our commitment

Our commitment to the environment has led us to develop high quality products that meet the requirements of sustainable construction, while controlling the ecological impact of our activities.

The various environmental certificates we have obtained attest to this commitment and give you all the peace of mind you need when deciding to build with elZinc.

Our Commitment

ISO 14001 certification

The ISO 14001 certification guarantees that elZinc manages its processes within a production model oriented towards total compatibility with the environment. Thanks to our continuous improvement system, we develop technical solutions that lead our transformation processes to excellence in terms of performance in resource useage.

With this standard, elZinc brings greater added value to its activity and to its customers, through a certification that accredits the implementation of a management system aimed at reducing the consumption of resources and energy per tonne produced as much as possible.

Designing buildings that meet the requirements of sustainable construction is not only good for the environment, but also for the people who work and live in them. That is why, at elZinc®, we have made a strong commitment to make our processes and products increasingly sustainable and efficient, and to move towards zero environmental impact.

ISO 50001 certification

elZinc acquires the international energy management system certification ISO 50001.

In addition to using state-of-the-art production technology, which in itself allows better use of materials and reduces the energy consumption required for our industrial processes, we have decided to take another step forward in our policies to improve energy efficiency in our facilities and make our activity even more sustainable.

Obtaining the ISO 50001 Energy Efficiency certification, validated by Lloyd’s Register, means that we have implemented an energy management system. This sets the foundation for enabling us to achieve various goals in the future, including using energy more efficiently for example by implementing improvements to our facilities, conserving natural resources, and addressing climate change by reducing our carbon footprint.

This certification demonstrates the company’s alignment with international energy requirements for a circular economy and for sustainable construction.

ISO 50001 certification

ISO 45001 certification

ISO 45001 certification

The company reinforces safety prevention as a strategic axis and perfects its occupational risk control processes by obtaining the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification.

People are our company’s most important asset. Consequently, protecting the physical integrity and health of workers is a priority for elZinc. The adoption of an OSH management system aims to provide safe and healthy workplaces, prevent work-related injuries and health deterioration and continuously improve its OSH performance.

ISO 14064-1:2018 certification

elZinc obtains Carbon Footprint Certification and reaffirms its commitment to the environment

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime.

In this context and within the scope of the Low Environmental Impact Policy that we have been developing for years, and as recognition and evidence of the compliance of our management system to ISO standard 14064-1:2018, AENOR, an independent certification body, has awarded us the Carbon Footprint Organisation certificate.

What is a company’s carbon footprint?

A company’s Carbon Footprint is a voluntary environmental indicator that quantifies the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions resulting directly or indirectly, from an organisation’s activities (transport, energy consumption, manufacturing, raw material production, etc…).

This register allows us to identify processes within the organisation that result in the greatest emissions, so we can focus our efforts on them and implement measures to reduce our carbon footprint arising from them.

How can elZinc reduce its carbon footprint?

Here are some of the measures we are implementing:

  • Reduce our dependence on fossil fuels: the solar panels that we have installed on the roofs of our factory allow us to save 893t of CO2 emissions.
  • Making better use of raw materials and energy: the cutting-edge technologies we are using help us optimise the energy efficiency of our factory and the use of raw materials.
  • Working in coordination with our suppliers to design new raw material solutions with a low carbon footprint that allow us to move towards a more sustainable model.
  • Redesigning internal plant logistics systems to work with transport units that do not use fossil fuels.

ISO14067:2019 certification

carbon footprint certificatio

elZinc obtains carbon footprint certification for its products

We have been awarded the carbon footprint certification according to the UNE-EN ISO14067:2019 standard, for our rolled products elZinc Alkimi® (natural zinc and the 5 grey pre-patinated products in the range) and elZinc Rainbow®

This certificate is yet another example of the endorsement of elZinc’s clear commitment to standards that accredit good practices in areas such as environmental protection and the fight against climate change.

The Carbon Footprint calculated is the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated from “Cradle to Gate”, and covers the following production processes:

  • Extraction and production of raw materials
  • Transport of raw materials to the elZinc plant
  • Manufacture of elZinc Natural, elZinc Alkimi and elZinc Rainbow coil and sheet.

Both the Organisation Carbon Footprint certificate and the Product Carbon Footprint certificate help us to identify the processes that are the biggest emitters, and thus to develop emission reduction programmes.

EPDs

Sustainable development is one of elZinc’s priorities; it is part of the philosophy that leads us to implement innovative processes and products that respect the environment.

For this reason, we have completed the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for elZinc Natural and the EPD for our entire range of elZinc Alkimi® pre-patinated products as part of the GlobalEPD program carried out by AENOR, an independent organization of international prestige.

What is an EPD – Environmental Product Declarations?

An EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration) is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products.

They are used in both public and private procurement , as well as in environmental certification schemes for buildings (e.g. LEED or BREEAM certification program).

These tools reinforce the commitment made by elZinc to offer innovative and sustainable roofing and cladding solutions.

LEED Certification

A series of factors related to Green Building and alternative energies.

The LEED® certification program (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) was developed in 1998 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), in the United States.

The LEED® system is composed of a set of prerequisites and credits spread over 8 categories. It’s an international certification system based on the assessment and approval of a series of factors related to Green Building and alternative energies.

Each building is classified by its use and aspires to one of the 4 certification levels, depending on the amount of points the project accrues or on the level of compliance achieved.
